Another cello loop improv this week.

Contrary to popular belief, I still make beat oriented music. This is a rough outline of a song that I worked on while at Yachats on the coast. It’s based on two things: a field recording of the frogs and surf outside my window and marc fischer’s excellent dust breeding plug-in In a way, it’s kind of fractal in that I run the output through the plug in several times, transposing the sounds down an octave each time, producing a layered harmonic structure.
I often have many sections sketched out of a song, which I will cut and paste until the structure makes musical sense to me. The real artistry is then figuring out the transitions between sections so everything is seamless or surprising. This one is not quite there yet.
I am pretty much just playing uneffected (although with some pitchdelay in sections) and John is playing his synths that are tuned using just intonation and looping both of us with his 8-part looper whose lengths correspond to numbers in the harmonic series.
