Adventures of a Shoegaze Cellist
Here’s part of our live set from the Optic Echo Showcase for the Closer Festival.
This three song EP is my holiday gift to you all. I was away at the coast for most of this week, and being without the internet, I managed to be productive and produce this EP of guitar and cello drones.
I wish everyone a happy new year, and hope the warmth and hope of this music reaches you wherever you may be.
Update: stay tuned for a nicely mastered, pay as you like, audiophile version of this EP on my bandcamp site. Until, then enjoy the soundcloud version.
Blackheart – TOTW 1-11-10 by ooray
Experiment with two parallel loopers – one looper is guitar through harmonizer, and the other is uneffected cello. I like the result – this piece comes in waves and feels more dynamic than my usual looper pieces.
Sun Spots (ooray + unrecnow collab) – TOTW 8-24-09 by ooray
This track is the fruit of a collaboration with Matt and Marc of Unrecognizable Now (Marc’s original post about this track). I’ve been going over to their practice space on sundays and improvising with them, which is fun and forces me to keep up my improv and collaborative chops.
One thing I most like playing with Matt and Marc is how well they listen to each other…so I do my best to listen and contribute accordingly.
Also, very cool, James Fahey, aka The Ambienteer made a 56 minute stretch remix of this track which can be found here: http://ambienteer.com/index.php/2009/08/21/sun-spots. Definitely a relaxing, gorgeous listen.
At the coast (Yachats) this weekend and listening to the frogs outside my window inspired this.
Just guitar this time through, no cello (taking a break this week).
A Space Western piece this time, constructed using the extremely wonderful Ableton Live 8 beta Looper. Reversed guitar plus a couple of cello overdubs.
Track of the week this week is pixelated guitar, looped and reverbed. Hope you enjoy!
I have been inspired by my friend Marc’s new blog to post more work lately. His aim for his new blog, Dust Breeding, is to produce a work of art a day for a year. Marc is insanely talented in many spheres of art and it’s been great to see all the small pieces he’s been working on. I may not post something every day, but I thought it would be interesting to post audio more often.
We (Marc and Matt of unrecognizable now and Brian of Gasp and myself) got together this Sunday for an impromptu jam. Marc posted one of the resulting pieces up on his blog and I thought I’d post it up here as well:
