As most of you know, I love to collaborate with people. The cello is good at taking both a foreground and background role, which makes it easy for me to fit in with other artists. Two albums have been recently released with contributions that I’m particularly proud of.
The first continues the ongoing collaboration I’ve had with Marcus Fischer’s band, Unrecognizable Now. “Two Rooms” is a recording by Marc and Matt where they used the room sound of their underground practice space to color their wide-shifting spectra. I contributed several layered cello tracks to this one. This recording is now available as either a gorgeous handstamped CD or a digital release from Kesh.
The second album comes from a long-time friend, Tanner Volz, who records more beat oriented music as Anklebiter. I played on two of the tracks, which are both layered and gorgeous, “Raintree” and “The Lazy Pioneers”. The rest of the album is also worth checking out. More info about “Raintree” here.
Here’s part of our live set from the Optic Echo Showcase for the Closer Festival.
This should be a great way to kick off the summer, and includes sets from our ambient friends, including _wndfrm, Widesky, and Ethernet. It’s free, and on a lazy sunday afternoon, so please come!
Here’s a track that I submitted for the SEQUENCE4 compilation. I asked the question, “What if Erik Satie and Kevin Shields made a track together?” Enjoy.
As always, you can find my latest sonic experiments on my soundcloud page at soundcloud.com/ooray.
A short, Harold Budd inspired soundscape for cello and Electric Piano for the springtime rain.
A lovely way to start spring. A video of the DC cherry trees in bloom, with “Silhouettes” as the soundtrack.
Evidently my track Silhouettes is becoming quite popular as a soundtrack. Here are some of the more interesting videos that are using it. Quite a wide selection, and glad you guys chose my music.
Kaleid (like the Longfellow poem with it, too).
Zion National Park Tour by Jensend60
It’s really heartening to see that my music is being used for such diverse projects.

January 9, 2011
Please join us at Ella Street Social Club for a lovely night of winter drones to herald the new year.
The OO-Ray (Ted Laderas) will open up with his signature shoegazer cello, which utilizes looping, pitchshifting, and distortion to produce symphonic drones to get lost in.
Next are the delicate sonics of Unrecognizable Now (Marcus Fischer and Matt Jones), who utilize a battery of instruments such as glockenspiel, guitars, tuning forks, music boxes and field recordings in order to build towering sonic cathedrals brick by brick.
Finally, Parties is a supergroup that hails from California, Texas, and Virginia that have come together to produce a joyful roar. Featuring the talents of Joe Morgan (The Late Virginia Summers), P.D. Wilder (Hotel Hotel & More States), and Andrew Weathers.
Each of these acts are a unique electroacoustic talent and should not be missed.
Event is Free, but donations are suggested.
