I heart Kevin Shields

And so do a lot of people, I know. When I hear My Bloody Valentine’s music, it just makes me forget that I’m me…it’s a personal reality distortion field.

Wired’s Listening post posted a link to a droney piece that Kevin Shields did as a soundtrack for a ballet. Here’s the link. And here’s more information about the ballet.

This piece shows everything I love about noise and drones and Kevin Shields. Droney noisy music seems to encapsulate a lot of different contradictory emotions at once…I’ve seen drone/noise acts that hype me up and relax me at the same time, make me angry and happy, and just sort of help me make sense when my feelings are swirling around and I don’t understand what I’m feeling.

I hope to write more about shoegazer and why I’m so interested in this kind of music. To me, this music showcases an amazing way of playing with sound.
