Cello at 33

I almost decided not to post anything this year about my progress in my cello studies - I was feeling depressed and pretty much unaccomplished and discouraged. So far to go. But then I remembered that this is my yearly inventory and way to remind myself why I started learning Cello three years [...]

TOTW 3-16-09: Quipo

Quipo - TOTW 3-16-09 by ooray

Another short track this week, simple cello with atmospheric touches.

Magnifications out now!

Download Magnifications now!

My full length album, Magnifications, is finally out on Luvsound! A big thanks to Erik and Kev (luvsound label heads) for making this all happen. This album is the culmination of lots and lots of experimentation and improvisation (much like the tracks of the week I’ve been posting) and I’m extremely [...]

Catching up - two great releases from friends

Here are two really good recent releases from acquaintances of mine that might be of interest.
Khoral’s Broken Sails EP is lush synth-pop whose arrangements remind me of Gary Numan crossed with Jeremy Enigk’s album ‘Return of the Frog Queen’. All the songs are about sailing and abandoned ships and the sea. Has a [...]

Ben Burtt on Wall-E

Wonderful, inspiring talk by Ben Burtt on how he did the sound design for Wall-E (thanks jdg).

NYTimes piece on art in hard times

When the [...]

Disquiet Inaugural Mix + Magnifications out soon!

Proud to say that my recent live set is part of Disquiet’s Inaugural Mix. Very cool!
Also, proud to say that my album Magnifications will be out March 1 on luvsound.org (also check their spiffy new site design).

Coraline…Seriously.

If you haven’t yet seen Coraline, you owe it to yourself to see it. Probably one of the most incredibly hallucinatory and spooky films I’ve seen in years. So many incredible details…and the fact that it is stop motion makes it one to treasure for years and years.
Also: great article [...]

TOTW 2-02-09: 1tet

1tet by ooray

I’ve decided to try and post an improvisation a week (not quite up to Marc’s insane goal of 1 piece a day). The tracks will be downloadable via Soundcloud.
I’ve been experimenting with looping using a microphone, and I was pleasantly surprised by these results.

TOTM: 4 in a room

I have been inspired by my friend Marc’s new blog to post more work lately. His aim for his new blog, Dust Breeding, is to produce a work of art a day for a year. Marc is insanely talented in many spheres of art and it’s been great to see all the small [...]
